Changing your job can be very stressful but losing your job is often traumatic. You are faced with issues that simply increase the problems (e.g. searching for work, money problems, injured pride etc) and as a result you can begin to suffer from other issues that would benefit from psychological intervention. If you know that you are going to be made redundant you should ask your employer if they will fund a period of psychotherapy or some other advisory help to assist you in overcoming the issues that will almost certainly arise from the redundancy. Psychotherapy will help you in dealing with the traumatic events in a confidential and emotionally supportive environment. It will also assist in empowering you to take, what may possibly be life changing decisions, about your career and future. Do not under-estimate the value on being able to talk about these issues in a non-judgemental and supportive environment with a skilled professional who will assist in empowering you to deal with the very stressful events.
